Affirmative Fair Housing and Marketing Plan (AFHMP) Instructions

Fair Housing Program View Slideshow

Did you know it is illegal under federal law to discriminate in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, national origin or familial status?

Did you know that California law also makes it illegal to discriminate in housing based on sexual orientation, age, source of income, medical condition (including HIV, AIDS, ARC) or for other arbitrary reasons?

  • A family looking for a home should not have to worry about being denied housing because they have children.
  • A person should not have to wonder if he/she will be denied housing based on the color of their skin, or the accent with which they speak.
  • A person with a disability such as blindness should not be denied housing because of a "no pets" policy.
  • A person should never have to be sexually harassed in exchange for more favorable treatment in housing.

Yet, these things happen every day. Maybe it's even happened to you.

Both federal and state law say it's illegal to deny or limit services or access, offer differential terms or policies, or deny housing, loans, or insurance based on the protected classes mentioned above. If these things happen to you, there is help. Information is the key - know your rights!
