Jonathan wants to be a police officer when he grows up. Riddled with drugs and gang violence, the Crown Heights neighborhood does not have a good track record of sending kids off to a successful future. However, Jonathan, 7 years old, has a fighting chance. He has strong family support and he has us, North County Lifeline.
For the past year Jonathan has attended our after school youth development program. Every day he shows up at our door is one more day he avoids the high risk behaviors many of his peers are already engaged in.
He says, "this program is fun and has lots of activities. . . . and they help me with my math homework." We happen to know he also loves dodge ball and beach field trips.
Jonathan and many other youth want to say thanks. They also want to make sure that the program continues to be available to them as they navigate their way through the minefield of junior high and high school.
You can help Jonathan by purchasing a piece of his original artwork at our It's Now! It's Wow! fundraiser on Saturday September 22nd. For more information, visit: www.nclifeline.org/iniw.
